Completion had previously been scheduled for this month, although completion targets have been rescheduled on several occasions.
JAIF said that Japan Nuclear Fuel Ltd filed an application with Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry on 30 January 2009 to alter its works schedule at the plant.
Rokkasho, in the northern prefecture of Aomori, will have a reprocessing capacity of about 800 tonnes annually and was originally scheduled to start full commercial operation in mid-2007.
